Kelly Carlson

Bio:

Kelly is from Minnesota, and grew up in Richfield before moving to the south metro. Kelly attended Rasmussen College to earn her AAS degree in Massage Therapy.

Kelly, in her own words: “My education has really helped me to understand more about myself physically, as well as mentally. I believe massage is an important role in a healthy lifestyle.

The benefits one receives from massage are core to wellbeing. Massage helps ease muscle tension, stress and pain. Massage is a natural form of healing, so it can eliminate the need for pain medicines, as it relates to muscle dysfunction. Massage also increases blood and lymph circulation, helping to keep the body at its healthiest level. Massage can help reduce length of hospital stay and reduce recovery time from injury or surgery.

Massage is beneficial for all people: adults- young and elders, people with special needs, like those who are pregnant, or use walking devices, as well as infants and children. Massage can even be helpful for people with high level of stress in their lives, whether it be work-related or personal.

I love being able to help people with their muscular issues, stress reduction, and feelings of well-being. I have always wanted a career where I could help people feel better, so massage seemed natural to me! If you have never had a massage, I suggest you get one soon…if it has been a while since your last massage, what better time than now!”

Healing Modalities:

Swedish Massage: uses oil and a firm but gentle pressure to improve your circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility and create relaxation. This is the massage people request most often, but other types of massage may be integrated into the session, such as Deep Tissue, Sports techniques, Trigger Point Therapy, and Myofascial Release for maximum benefit.

Deep Tissue Massage: is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as I work to release chronic muscle tension or knots.

Sports Massage: Sports massage is designed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. Sport massage is also good for people with injuries, chronic pain or restricted range of motion.

Trigger Point Therapy: aims to relieve “knots” in the muscle tissue. These knots are actually chemical imbalances within the muscle. Pressure is applied to the site of the trigger point in attempt to flush the area clean of the toxins. Trigger point therapy is best used with a deep tissue or Swedish massage to properly circulate the whole body system.

Myofascial Release Techniques: are a group of techniques used to release the body’s dysfunctional fascia pattern, which interconnects every muscle in the body. When these dysfunctional patterns are held too long, they can begin to affect other areas of the body contributing to a wide variety of pains and muscular issues. Myofascial release can be used during Swedish massage, or just as effectively over your clothes.

Prenatal & Infant Massage: Prenatal massage is for the expectant mother, done in a side-lying position with pillows supporting you in the most comfortable way. Prenatal massage is great for relieving pregnancy related aches and pains, and is great for the baby since massage increases circulation. Massage is known to reduce stress, which can have an effect on the unborn child and quality of the pregnancy. Once mommy and baby have adjusted back home, infant massage is a great way to bond with your baby and I would love to teach you how!

Hot Stone Massage: Basalt stones are heated to a warm, comfortable temperature and used with Swedish massage. Practiced for centuries, hot stone massage is a technique that is renowned for its healing and relaxing properties, which is believed to rejuvenate and soothe the body and mind.

Chair Massage: Chair massage is performed seated with clothing on. I mainly work the back, shoulders, neck, arms, and scalp. Chair massage is for anyone, especially office workers for who a 10-15 minute massage done at break time can help you to relax, while being productive as the circulation of blood is increased to your whole body.

Chair massage can be done on site at your office, but requires a minimum number of people participating and management approval. I also make it available in my office, but I need to know in advance if this will be requested.
